Access Esperanza Clinics is the largest and oldest family planning agency along the south Texas border. We have provided high quality affordable health services in Hidalgo County for over 50 years and annually serve about 15,000 people. Our mission is to provide education, advocacy, and affordable high-quality health care so women and men in our community can access the sexual and reproductive health services they need. Members of the First United Methodist Church in Mission, Texas founded our agency in 1964. Their purpose was to improve the quality of life for people with limited incomes by helping women plan and space pregnancies. We continue their legacy of building strong, healthy communities with four full-time and two part-time clinics located throughout Hidalgo County. Over 90 percent of our patients meet income guidelines for free or low-cost services, and for many, we are their only healthcare provider. Our services offer patients opportunities and hope for brighter, healthier futures. Women who are able to prevent unplanned pregnancies have safer birth, are healthier, have healthier children, stay in school longer, and earn more. When pregnancies are planned, the risk of family violence is less, and dads are more likely to be involved in the children’s lives. Prevention works! When women can access family planning services, the entire community benefits when. Every $1 invested in public family planning programs like ours saves taxpayers over $7 in Medicaid prenatal and birth costs. Access Esperanza Clinics Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Funding comes from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, the Department of State Health Services, and the federal Title X family planning program. Private donations and foundations also fund patient services and educational programs. At Access Esperanza Clinics, we offer opportunities and hope for people to plan their futures and stay healthy. You can count on us for quality, affordable, and confidential care at all of our health clinics.
ExploreHealthCareers.org is a free, peer-reviewed website designed to educate students and advisors about health careers. ExploreHealthCareers.org’s mission is to help solve two urgent problems in U.S. health care: the under-representation of minorities in the workforce and the shortage of health professionals in medically underserved communities. ExploreHealthCareers.org hopes to help build a stronger health care workforce by providing easy access to updated, peer-reviewed career descriptions that inspire and motivate students to find health careers that suit them. Their vision is to see the health professionals of tomorrow be highly skilled and motivated, and as diverse as the patients they serve. Considering that, health care is a vast field that offers a range of diverse opportunities, it is important that all student research before deciding on a position to make sure you choose one that’s a good fit for them. People can start with the Career Explorer in their website, as it collects details about all different types of health care positions to allow you to compare and contrast those that interest you. Furthermore, the best health care practitioners are committed to giving their patients the best care possible. These health care practitioners prioritize keeping up with the latest developments in the field, continuing to study and learn long after their initial schooling ends. If you have a similar interest in lifelong learning, it’s a good idea to consider entering the health care field. Finally, Health care is increasingly focusing on team work as patients’ recovery depends more and more on how well each member of the team performs his or her specific function and how well they communicate and collaborate with one another. Even dentists — 70% of whom work in a solo private practice — usually supervise and work closely with several staff members. When choosing a health care position, you’ll want to consider the amount of teamwork it requires to ensure it’s a good fit for you and your working style.

Paramedics for Children International (PFCI) provides medical care, education programs, and disaster relief to children, families, and communities in Central America and beyond. We serve without regard to religious beliefs, gender, race, or ethnic background. We started out in 1996 by delivering school supplies to hundreds of Mayan Chortí Indian children in the mountain villages of Copán, Honduras. From there, we expanded to disaster response and training (by 2004 we had the largest all-volunteer ambulance services in all of Central America!), and established Clinica la Esperanza, which treats up to 12,000 patients per year. What started as a small group of paramedics, nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals has evolved into so much more. We now host volunteers from all walks of life, and we have a lot of fun while making a difference in our communities. VOLUNTEER WITH US Individuals, couples, groups and families: no matter what you’re looking for, we have a volunteer opportunity waiting for you. The people we serve are largely the indigenous Chortí Maya, descendants of the great Maya city-state of Copán. Many of the families we work with live in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.25 a day with little access to healthcare. OUR MEDICAL PROGRAM Clinica la Esperanza invites students and people with medical training—such as Paramedics, Nurses, PAs, and Physicians—to volunteer or intern with our onsite physician. If you’re interested in building your career or learning about medicine in a developing country, come work with us! Our clinic offers quality medical care to some of the poorest communities in Central America. Our patients are Chortí Maya Indians—direct descendants of the Maya, whose civilization dominated Mexico and Central America for thousands of years. Copán Ruinas, where our clinic is located, is a World Heritage Site with famous Mayan ruins located less than 800 yards from our front gate. OUR SCHOOL SUPPLY PROGRAM Since 1996, we’ve been providing school supplies—notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, crayons, and pencil sharpeners (and maybe some lollipops and small toys!)—to children in remote mountain schools all around Copán, Honduras. We visit each classroom four times per year, and through this program, families in deep poverty—many surviving on just $1.25 USD per day—have been able to send their children at least to elementary school. Join us as a volunteer: your help will have a direct impact on bringing the next generation out of extreme poverty and on toward success. OUR DISASTER RESPONSE TRAINING PROGRAM In a disaster, the first 72 hours after the event are the most important. That is when the most lives can be saved and the most property salvaged. It’s also that long before international disaster response teams can be mobilized—so we train and equip Central American Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians. This kind of immediate assistance and long-term training can save far more lives than a reliance on outside help. Not just in disaster situations, but also in the smaller-scale emergencies that happen every day. BECOME A PARTNER Our partners provide invaluable support to keep our programs running in Honduras and Guatemala. SPONSOR A SCHOOL Imagine a child living in a village with no electricity or even running water—yet now he can communicate with the world through his local school. Many of our schools are high in the mountains with a direct line of sight to Copán’s Internet providers below, meaning if they have Internet access, they also can access professional education services beyond what their teachers currently are able to provide. A school can be fully equipped with everything needed for under $2,500 for hardware and just $49.00 per month per school for high-speed Internet service. Please contact us to learn more.

Medimap is Canada’s leading digital health marketplace for finding easy access to local healthcare providers. Over 70% of the walk-in medical clinics across Canada currently use our platform to publish their wait times online and hundreds of thousands of patients visit medimap.ca every month to compare availability at clinics in their community. Founded in 2015, our initial goal was to provide Canadians with an easy way of comparing wait times at walk-in medical clinics in their community to avoid the frustration of driving from clinic to clinic for access to care. Today, Medimap has become a trusted resource for over 5 million Canadians who have used our platform to find easier access to care in their community. Our services include walk-in clinic wait times, on-demand virtual doctor visits, as well as the ability to easily find last minute available appointments for local paramedical services such as massage therapy, physiotherapy and chiropractic clinics. Providers participate in Medimap’s marketplace to reach new patients to grow their practice, fill their last-minute openings, and deliver a better healthcare experience. Medimap is a private company backed by some of Canada’s leading investors, and we believe we’re still only scratching the surface of what we plan to accomplish. We are a mission-driven organization dedicated to building teams as diverse as the patients and providers we aim to serve. We are a company that prides itself on being highly collaborative, and we believe that diverse perspectives, experiences and contributors make our community and our platform better.

Benenden Health was founded in 1905 to provide treatment for postal workers suffering from Tuberculosis. Over the past 115 years, we've supported our members through many crises, and we’re helping to support people now. Member contributions have always been used to support the health and wellbeing of our members. That hasn’t and won’t change now, or in the future. As a not-for-profit organisation, we’re proud to be part of a community that cares deeply for people’s health and strives to support our members every day, whether it’s through our 24/7 GP and Mental Health helplines, or other services. We all deserve access to great quality, affordable healthcare. After all, our health and wellbeing is never simple, but caring for it should be. Every Benenden Health member pays exactly the same price each month. And that money goes into a pot to support our members when they need help. Our mutuality enables our members to be one big community; a community that’s there for each other every day and a community where everybody is equal. As a mutual, we’re run both by and for our members, which means you can have your say in how the organisation is run. Key decisions are taken by our members, so the more members who get involved, the more ideas we have, the better the debate.
Free Clinics is about helping people find free and affordable health care. We provide a list of all free and low cost, including sliding scale, clinics in the US. Full descriptions and information are listed. FreeClinics.com is not associated with any government organization. You can help someone who needs financial help with their medical needs. You can also request assistance from others in our community. Many of the clinics listed on Free Medical Search exist to meet the needs of the uninsured. Most of the uninsured are in low-income working families. In 2013, nearly 8 in 10 were in a family with a worker, and nearly 6 in 10 have family income below 200% of poverty. While many clinics offer services at fees at reduced rates or according to income, some clinics offer essential services at no cost at all. Many clinics receive federal and state funding, so they offer services for free. Services vary greatly, so call first. Free Medical Search lists low cost and affordable health care centers, and not just free clinics. Thousands of clinics across the country offer income-based services, which are especially helpful for the working poor.
